One day’s dose of piracy…

(Update: given the recent news on Megaupload I suggest visitors start by reading this post:  Cyberlockers: Explaining Pyracy’s Profit Pyramid that outlines how cyberlockers have become the epicenter for today’s piracy).

As an example, on this one forum, in one thread on one day in late May an illegal download was posted for LOLA.  53 people responded and most everyone one added more links of there own.  One day–one forum.

Why this instant explosion of links?  Basically once a film is uploaded it essentially becomes fresh meat. Take a look at the “cyber-locker” page for a more detailed examination of this, but essentially people post links because they can earn cash rewards from the cyber-locker sites that “host” the infringing files.  The more times the file is downloaded, the more money they make.   Such is the result of the cyber-locker’s pyramid-scheme business model that incentivizes piracy.
